I learned from the desert
to grow without water
to turn the scorching heat of the summers,
the unsparing hot loo winds
and feel their cool aftertouch.
I learned to dig deep into the ground
to find whatever air to survive.
To disappear like the dead - every year
only to come out of the closet
when the sky is benevolent,
in the bright green dress
and laugh.
My story is best known to me –
a long sadhna of being and becoming.
To flower once in a while
and sway when the wind blows.
Scattering my seeds,
making a garden out of my own nothingness.

Founder's Bio
Founder's Bio
Suruchi is a National Award-winning filmmaker from Rajasthan, India. Her documentary Meen Raag won the Silver Lotus at the 69th National Film Awards, while her docu-series Equals received Special Mention at the IDA Awards 2023. Her experimental film Gagan Gaman premiered at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024 and Internationale Kurtzfilmtage Winterthur 2025 amongst others. A graduate of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, she founded Studio Ainak in 2014 and Rewrite screenwriters' residency in 2022. Her work explores folk culture, feminine narratives, and sustainability through a visual language that bridges documentary and allegorical fiction. An exhibition derived from her decade-long practice titled “Bheetar/Bahar” was showcased at Jairangam 2025. Based in Jaipur, she values creative autonomy and thrives on deep collaboration with artists, musicians, and communities.
